Faculties - Sport Report

Every term the Sports faculty recognises the sporting achievements of students from Cardiff High School during the Awards Assembly held at the end of each term.

We would like to acknowledge the following achievments:

 

Term 2 Sport Report

Term 2 has been a busy term for sport at Cardiff High School.

Athletics
We have seen the athletics carnival produce some outstanding results with 11 school records falling.
Record breakers included Trinity Cadette, Samuel Jones, Kelani Haimau-Ikihele, Tahla Pont, Morgan Haimau-Ikihele, Tim Razmovski and Adam Lanske.
 
Our Zone Athletics team performed with distinction at the Westlakes Zone Carnival, with Cardiff High School placing 2nd overall!
Our students achieved 5 age champions, including Trinity Cadette, Danika Spamer, Tahla Pont, Celeste and Dylan Robertson. This was an amazing achievement for Cardiff High School.
 
The Hunter Region carnival will be held in Term 3.
  
Knockout Competitions 
Cardiff High School has had teams compete in a number of school knockout competitions with the following results:
  • Girls hockey made it to round 4
  • Bill Turner Soccer made it to round 3
  • Baseball made it to the regional semi final
  • Both boys and girls futsal made it to the champion of champions
  • Boys open cricket have made it through to round 4 which is to be played in term 4
Regional and NSW Combined High School Teams
We have also had students selected for Regional and NSW CHS teams:
  • Joshua and Rixon Wingrove were selected in the Hunter Baseball team
  • Jaylen Boyce and Lucas Borrow were both selected in the Hunter AFL team, with Lucas Borrow moving onto to selection in the Northern NSW team to play at the NSW CHS Championships
  • James Broderick was selected in the Hunter Lawn Bowls team and won a Bronze medal at the NSW CHS Championships
  • Tahla Pont and Brock Taylor were both selected in the Hunter Cross Country team to compete at the NSW CHS Championships in Term 3.
  • Brock Taylor competed at the Nationals Allschools Triatholon Championships.
School Sport
Year 7 have completed their skills program this term, being coached by professionals in the sports of AFL, Rugby Union, Oz Tag, Basketball, Netball and Baseball.
 
Online Sports Choices
Cardiff High School has entered a new era by introducing online sport choices for Term 3. This has proven to be a monumental success.

 

Term 1 Sport Report

Term 1 has been a busy term for sport at Cardiff High School.
 
Swimming and Cross Country
We have seen the school swimming and cross country carnivals which were well represented by all houses and year groups, with Wuru the eventual winners of Cross Country.
 
Cardiff high school had many students represent at the Zone swimming championships of with Shaiyan Suba, Lucas Borrow and Hunter Jones qualified to move forward to the regional swimming championships.
 
Knockout Competitions
We have had teams compete in a number of school knockout competitions this term including boys and girls Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Lawn Bowls, Softball, Netball, Rugby League and Boys Football.
 
Our most successful Knockout teams thus far have been the Open Boys Cricket team moving through to round 3, coached by Mr Glassop, and The Open Girls Volleyball team who played in the regional quarter-final, coached by Mr Welch.
 
Training and selections has also began for AFL, Girls Football, Baseball, Zone Cross Country and the school Athletics carnival which is fast approaching next term.
 
Regional and NSW Combined High School Teams
Cardiff High has already had four highly successful individuals move forward to be selected in Hunter Region teams to represent at state level:
  • Piper Prince and Blake Windread in Golf
  • James Broderick in Lawn Bowls and
  •  Lucas Burrow and Jaylan Boyce have been selected in the U/15’s AFL team.
As a school, Cardiff High has received many compliments from the general public, referee’s and carnival officials, often saying that our students show excellent sportsmanship and behaviour when representing outside the school grounds. We are very proud of our sports people and teams and are looking forward to many more results next term.
